Okay, to get a forum jumpin', I'm posting up a character idea I like.
Anca is the Kalijor avatar of Selena Oraya.
An ogre master of weapons born in, of all places, Talandor, she's a bit on the grouchy side. Growing up with a rash of gnomes and dwarves underfoot, who wouldn't be? But because of that, she has learned to fight oppenents much smaller than her on top of sparring (and loosing quite often) with her 2 older and much larger brothers.
The trident, an odd weapon for anyone to favor, became her choice after fishing with her mother on the shores of The Endless Ocean and the tale is told as this:
A small trident was being used to spear fish for dinner when her mother was attacked. Anca, still young, grabbed her own trident. After stabbing the tines into her mother's leg and arm in missed shots, she was terrified of taking another lest she actually hurt her seriously. Her mother exhorted her to take the trident and throw, for if she was going to die, it would not be in the maw of a sea creature! By a twist of fate, Anca missed her mother's head by mere inches throwing the trident wildly at the writhing creature. It struck home, embedding itself in the head of the snake-like monster. Her mother rescued, thanked her and promptly told her, with a large grin on her face, 'You're going to have to work on your trident skills before you save me again!'
And thus, Anca began to study akwardly with a trident. Since few trainers were available that even thought to use one, she had to learn a great deal on her own. The scars on her face show her early attempts to try it before working with a local trainer using a spear and working with the trident in her spare time. The spear had some advantages in range, but nothing felt as comfortable in her hands as the huge trident commisioned for her by her father.
Like most ogres, she's physically huge. Unlike most ogres in Kalijor, somehow, she has an odd mop of dark hair on her head. Of course, she has more scars on her face than there are weapons in Kalijor. Or at least it seems that way. Her dreadlocked bunch of hair seems to mimic the lines of scars and make them look even paler in contrast.
When she smiles, it's a scary sight to see with a mouth full of bad teeth and her scars distending with the stretching of her skin. However, if you look in her eyes, you can see the kindness borne of a loving family. She protects those she cares for, adding to her physical scars, but her heart stays open to the world, unscarred by the experiences she's been through. Here, her family is what matters. If you become one of those she considers family, consider yourself honored. If you become an enemy, take very careful steps or you'll find a trident skewered through your skull.
